As I sit in my living room, around 3 AM, I begin to really ponder what next week will be like. Since I’ve done a horrible job at keeping this up to date, allow me to fill in a few blanks.
On February 10th, 2011, I turned in my resignation at Barton Community College. My last day will be the 25th of February. After which I will be starting a new job at Conklin Cars in Hutch. I will be temporarily be living with my aunt and uncle in town until some more permanent housing situation with the whole family can be arranged. In the mean time, I will be putting my house in Hoisington up for sale. I don’t think I’ll make much money on it, if any, but I need just enough to get me started on a new house.
Although I have switched jobs before, never have the stakes been so high. Last time I changed jobs, I wasn’t married, or even dating for that matter. I didn’t have any kids, and I was still living under my parent’s roof. Since that time, I started dating Kellie, bought a house, got married, moved both of our lives under one roof, added Tiger (our cat) and then added Hannah, my daughter.
Now the time has come for a lot of change. Communication with the rest of my family will be more paramount than ever before, since I won’t be seeing them in person on a daily basis. My hope is that we can all move to Hutch soon and that Kellie can find a good job in town and we can get the house sold quickly. Easier said than done.
I know that many families have gone through a transition like this with even longer distances and even higher stakes, but bear with me because I’ve never done anything like this on my own before, so it’s like I’m traveling into the unknown. I’m a person that likes to know the variables to the puzzle and learn how to manipulate them individually. I suppose that’s why I gravitate towards games like Sim City.
The other variable is my business, Swain Computer Services. Although it will remain an operating business, its location and services are still somewhat of an unknown. I have recently begun getting into the web and social media world, which certainly needs a lot of promotion around Barton County. There are a few people who do these things well enough, but the online community doesn’t have a closeness that other areas of the state do.
As far as what has prompted my change of employment will be left in the hands of those who can hopefully steer the situation into more productive times ahead. I maintain the fact that I will not publicly deface my former employers. Doing so would not help either of us progress towards the future.
